Mining contractor Stracon has confirmed the renewal of its contract with Zijin Continental Gold to extend its services at the Buritica underground gold project in Antioquia, Colombia.
After 20 months of initial work, the two have extended their time for an additional three years. Initial projects included the development and preparation of 600 meters per month in horizontal mining operations for underground mining, covering the entire mining cycle including drilling, blasting, cleaning and support.
“In 2022, we increased our fleet of heavy machinery, executed the development of more than 7,500 meters of horizontal workings and contributed to the extraction of more than 150,000 tons of mineral,” Stracon officials said.
“This renewal means for Stracon the result of great teamwork and our strategy based on becoming partners and allies of our clients.”
Buritica is Continental Gold’s flagship asset and is wholly owned by the company. It is two hours from Medellin, Colombia’s second largest city.
